Battlefield 2042 Season 3 adds a new map, specialist, vehicle, weapon and many mods

At the recent press preview event, we got the chance to check out the reveal for Battlefield 2042 Season 3 – Escalation in advance.

The crown jewel of this new update, due out on November 22nd across all platforms, is easily the new Spearhead map. It is the first game in the Battlefield franchise to be set in Sweden, the home country of DICE.

Take the battle into the Swedish wilderness in this CQC-focused map, featuring Nordvik’s two semi-automated manufacturing facilities housing high-tech weaponry and weather machine components. These facilities are surrounded by rock formations to increase cover and untamed terrain suitable for spectacular land and air combat.

The specialized addition to Season 3 is Zain, an Egyptian security expert equipped with the XM370A Air Burst Launcher, a weapon intended to knock enemies out of their cover positions. Zen is also said to be the fastest healing soldier on the battlefield, instantly recovering health after a kill.

Escalation introduces the EMKV90-TOR tank to Battlefield 2042. The vehicle can be switched between two fairly straightforward main modes, mobility and siege. Both modes feature an active threat detection system that displays nearby incoming threats on the HUD.

Of course, Battlefield 2042 Season 3 comes with many new weapons. The most striking of these is the RORSCH MK-4 Railgun, which is capable of multiple firing modes and is deadly in the hands of those who can master its unique charge timing. Then there is the NVK-S22 Smart Double-Barrel Semi-Automatic Shotgun and the NVK-P125 Bullpup Long-Barreled Pistol. Last but not least, throwing knives are back.

The developers are also adding new missions, which, once completed, unlock Vault Weapons from the Battlefield Portal, such as the XM8 LMG and the A-91 assault rifle. More will be added throughout Battlefield 2042 Season 3.

Later during the ramp-up, DICE also promised a specialized re-work system, which would approximate the class system of the previous installment. Here’s an overview from the developers.

Each class will receive class equipment and a favorite class tool. Weapon proficiencies will become available, providing gameplay advantages for each class. For example, Recons will instantly be able to hold their breath for a steady, steady range when using sniper rifles.

• Irish moves to Support, while Crawford moves to Engineer. The Irish will take Crawford’s existing trait, and Crawford will receive a new trait geared towards the engineer’s playing style.

• We want Raw to fit in better with the Recon category. To achieve this, we are improving communication between Rao and his colleagues to highlight instances where targets are weak.

• The Boris Tower will target vehicles and give them priority over soldiers. The class system will continue to work through Season 4 with more design changes for other specialists, balancing changes, and the arrival of new content to fill out the class tool options.

Two overhauls will be released to the map in the next couple of months, with Manifest coming out in December and Breakaway in January. As a reminder, Battlefield 2042 is now part of EA Play / Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It will also be playable for free on Xbox from December 1-4, on PC between December 1-5, and on PlayStation between December 16-23.
