Gwyneth Paltrow says her “conscious disengagement” is the reason she continues to be friends with her exes

Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed why she’s still friends with her ex-girlfriends.

On Dec. 16, the Goop founder answered fan questions from Instagram DMs. One of the questions was whether or not Paltrow would stay friends with her exes.

the Fun The alum replied, “Very much. I really believe in conscious disengagement. When you’re having meaningful time with someone, it’s nice to turn into friendship. I don’t want to have blood with anyone, ever (if I can help it) ).”

Paltrow is credited with popularizing the term “conscious disengagement,” which was coined by author and marriage and family therapist Katherine Woodward Thomas in 2009. In 2014, the actress announced her separation from then-husband Chris Martin via her lifestyle website, with a personal post titled the phrase.

“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to part,” Paltrow wrote. “We worked hard for over a year, some together, some apart, to see what might have been possible between us, and came to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain apart.”

She added that she and Martin “will always be family”, and said they are “closer than we have been in a lot of ways”.

“We are parents first and foremost, of two incredibly beautiful children and we ask that our space and privacy be respected during this difficult time.” Se7en Star Books. “We’ve always conducted our relationship in private, and hopefully we can continue in the same way when we consciously and collaboratively disengage.”

Martin and Paltrow married in 2003. The couple share two children, Apple and Moses. Paltrow was previously engaged to Brad Pitt and then dated Ben Affleck for three years. The actress is currently married to producer Brad Falchuk.

“I know my ex-husband was supposed to be the father of my kids, and I know my current husband was supposed to be the person I grew up with,” Paltrow said. British Vogue in September.

The lifestyle guru seems to be on good terms with her friends. In July, an Instagram fan asked Paltrow how she felt about Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s fling. Paltrow replied “Love!!! So romantic!!! So happy for them.”

In June, Paltrow interviewed Pitt about his clothing line. During the interview, Pete said, “It’s great to be friends with you now. And I really love you.” “I love you so much,” the actress replied.

During her Instagram Q&A, the Iron Man The star also responded to a fan who asked her for tips for staying positive.

“I am a very optimistic person and I think this influences having a positive outlook on life,” said the mother of two. “I think the reason I have a positive outlook is because I try to have a really strong relationship with my body — myself, my relationships and a higher power. Those three things make everything align and I think gives me a bottom line of positivity.”
