Kanye West’s Massive Reddit Page Overrun by Taylor Swift’s Appreciation, Holocaust Awareness Content As Fans Abandon It
It seems the tables have turned for Kanye West fans. After the 45-year-old appeared on Alex Jones’ right-wing talk show “Infowars” on Thursday, where he continued to hurl anti-Semitic rhetoric and deliberately blasphemed Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, fans on the artist r/Kanye’s Reddit page, which has more than 700,000 subscribers, decided to Turning a subreddit into a Taylor Swift tribute page.
“Now this is the Taylor Swift Subreddit. We’ve had good mates,” declared its flagship site in its headline, and we have about 33,000 upvotes in agreement with the statement. The comments immediately galvanized support for the singer, with some even admitting that their dislike of Swift throughout the pair’s long history of feuding was misguided.
“I totally hated it [Swift] Back in 2016/17 only because I sided with Ye in their meat. Kinda regrets now because I like some of her music and it’s horribly obvious that Kanye is a terrible person,” commented one comment. Additional posts became discussions about which of Swift’s albums West fans liked, while other comments noted that Swift is now “making ‘graduation'” (a complex reference). This led to a long-running response by West’s fans about his problematic behavior, namely that he “got a pass” for making his famous album “Graduation” in 2007).
West and Swift have been at odds since the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Video by a Female Artist to announce his support for Beyoncé. This incident was reinforced in 2016 in the song “Famous” from the rapper’s “The Life of Pablo” album, when he declared: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that character famous.” Swift publicly denounced the song at the 2016 Grammy Awards, and West and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian leaked a phone conversation with Swift where she apparently gave approval for the song. Since then, the 32-year-old has refrained from engaging with the troubled rapper any further, though their fan bases have kept the feud alive.
In addition, the Kanye subreddit has published several posts highlighting the severity and horrific truth that the events of the Holocaust brought to the Jewish community. This includes historical footage of heavy machinery being used to clean up piles of corpses in concentration camps, and disheartening photographs from the time period alongside publications dedicated to victims of the tragedy, such as Anne Frank and her experiences, which she recounted in a diary that was discovered after her death. These fan posts mainly serve as an indictment of the West’s praise of Hitler in the Infowars interview and his denial of the Holocaust, highlighting the artist’s loss of support as he continues to spread hatred towards the Jewish community.
After an “Infowars” interview on Thursday and a series of problematic tweets from the West, including posting a Nazi-inspired slogan, Twitter CEO Elon Musk suspended the artist’s account from the platform.
