‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 31: Charli D’Amelio, Mark Ballas are the Mirrorball champions
TikTok stars Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas are the champions of the 31st season of Mirror Ball.
The winners of the 31st season of “Dancing With the Stars” have been announced, defeating fellow celebrities Shangela, Wayne Brady, and Gabby Windey, who are paired with professional partners Gleb Savchenko, Witney Carson, and Val Chmerkovskiy, respectively.
On “Good Morning America” Tuesday, D’Amelio and Ballas opened up about their win.
“I think for me, I really gave my all on this trip and got a lot out of it, whether it was the confidence in my dancing, or my new friends, you know, memories that I will remember forever,” D’Amelio said, adding that she was “happy” and “grateful” for the experience. This experiment.
Ballas described the experience, his first on a DWTS ballroom in five years, as “fantastic.”
He added, “I had a really great time, made a great friend and had a great time getting creative and dancing with Charlie.” “And also to be so down to earth with all my buddies, I grew up with all of them. I loved it. I had a really great time.”
In their final battle on the dance floor, which was broadcast live on Disney+, the four couples performed a redemption routine chosen by one of the judges. The actions selected were those he had performed earlier in the season.

Show stopping salvation and free dances
For his recovery routines, Brady did the quickstep to Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” while Shangela did the quickstep to Rochelle Diamante’s “Queen Bee.” They each got a score of 36.
But it was Wendy’s cha-cha to “I Like It (Like It)” by Pete Rodriguez and Jeff DiAmelio to “Grown” by Little Mix that wowed the judges, each receiving a score of 40.
The final four couples then participated in a freestyle round. Brady took to the dance floor first with his “Superbowl” routine with his dance partner, Carson, to a medley of Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” and Ciara and Chamillionaire’s song, “Get Up,” which earned him a 40.
TikTok star D’Amelio also earned 40 for her moving freestyle rendition of Pinar Toprak’s “Us Again,” which told a story about her love and loss of dancing, and then her love of dancing again.
Windey also took home 40 awards for her song “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago, which was choreographed by Chmerkovskiy’s wife, Jenna Johnson.
But it was Shangela’s sexy freestyle to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and “Call Me Mother” by RuPaul, which also featured Shangela’s partner, Savchenko, in drag as Natasha, that got the entire dance floor on its feet.
“I forgot to vote because I was so blown away by the whole thing,” Len Goodman said at the end of Shangela’s performance.
“It even had chicken in it,” he said, referring to the moment they were dancing when Shangela threw him a fried chicken leg.
Cheryl Burke says goodbye
Also hitting the dance floor for the last time was Cheryl Burke, who announced her retirement from the show over the weekend after 25 seasons.
The two-time Mirrorball champion delivered a fierce routine to Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana (At the Copa)” with two of her professional dance partners, Louis Van Amstel and Pasha Pashkov.
Before taking the mic, co-host Tyra Banks called Burke a living legend and said Burke was her first memory of “Dancing with the Stars.”
“This is my family,” Burke began. “Everyone has been a part of this cast, behind the scenes, prior to today. Everyone, thank you for believing in me and thank you for helping me find my voice. You’ve been part of who I am and I thank each and every one of you.”
