AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX & 7900 XT Launches In Reference Flavors, Dedicated Cards Coming In 1-2 Weeks

AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT may only be available in reference variants at launch as rumored by MyDrivers.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX & RX 7900 XT in reference flavors first, dedicated graphics cards 1-2 weeks later

It is reported that while AMD will indeed launch the Radeon RX 7900 XTX & RX 7900 XT GPU combo on December 13, the graphics cards will only be available on reference models. Gamers waiting to get their hands on dedicated graphics cards featuring the new RDNA 3 chipset will have to wait a bit.

While we’ve seen AMD’s board partners tease and reveal custom Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT designs (PowerColor/ASUS), they haven’t made an official introduction yet. A full reveal will likely happen sometime early next month which is when we’d also expect revisions to hit the cards. Revisions will soon follow the launch on December 13th, but this launch is rumored to only include reference variants. The custom AIB cards are said to launch in one to two weeks, but pre-orders for the AIB variants will likely open earlier so that buyers can reserve their cards early.

But the interesting thing the source mentioned is that AIB partner cards will be much more expensive than the reference variants. We know that the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has an MSRP of $999 while the Radeon RX 7900 XT has an MSRP of $899. If we are looking to bump into the $100-$200 range for the premium AIB variants, it will end up in the same price range as the RTX 4080 which has an MSRP of $1199.

Considering the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is pitted squarely against the 4080 and pricing is one of the most attractive features of an AMD flagship, the premium variants may not look so good against NVIDIA’s ridiculously priced card. But then NVIDIA’s 4080 AIB costs more than $1,300, and some even end up at more than $1,500. The rumor also makes sense given that AMD themselves stated that reference cards will be available on December 13th while partner cards will be available starting in mid-December:

AMD Radeon RX 7900 Series graphics cards are expected to be available from AMD.com starting December 13, 2022, and from leading board partners including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston starting December mid December. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has an SEP of $999, while the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT has an SEP of $899.

Yesterday, we reported that AMD might have a better launch offering than NVIDIA’s RTX 40 series, but it looks like the red team really wants users to get a taste of their reference designs first. It’s definitely going to be a hot December with both NVIDIA and AMD competing in the high-end GPU space.
