Major League Soccer released its regular season schedule on Tuesday, revealing the full slate of games for Opening Day on Feb. 25, and scheduling Decision Day for Oct. 21.
The MLS Cup schedule will be released at a later date.
The first game of the 2023 season will see FC Nashville host New York City at Jeudice Park with kick-off at 4:30 PM ET. The opening weekend will also see the debut of expansion St. Louis City, who will take on the Austin club on the road at Q2 Stadium. St. Louis will make its home debut on March 4 when it hosts last year’s newcomers Charlotte FC.

“I truly believe next year is going to be epic for St. Louis with a Major League Soccer season opener providing a platform to showcase our city to soccer fans across the United States and beyond,” said Carolyn Kindell, St. Louis City President and CEO.
“We look forward to hosting some great football games at CityPark, including our first home game against Charlotte on March 4th.”
Opening day will also include the latest edition of the traffic With MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy facing off against Crosstown rivals LAFC in the Rose Bowl.
Other notable games include a rematch of the 2022 MLS Cup Final between Philadelphia Union and LAFC, scheduled for September 23. Rivalry Week will run from May 13-20 and includes Atlanta United hosting Charlotte FC on May 13, while the Hudson River Derby will also take place at the same time between the New York Red Bulls and NYCFC.
Simultaneous kickoffs are an example of how MLS implements a common start time for games, with the vast majority of matches starting at 7:30pm local time.
The regular season will go on hiatus after the July 15 slate of games and resume on August 20 due to the League Cup, which will feature every team from both MLS and Liga MX. Major League Soccer will also pause during FIFA’s international windows in October and November. MLS clubs were given the option to play during the FIFA international window in June and September, with 13 clubs choosing to do so.
The addition of St. Louis led to another adjustment in the conference’s make-up, with the expansion side joining the Western Conference and Nashville returning to the Eastern Conference.
Eastern Conference teams’ schedule will see them play two games each against a conference opponent, with an additional six games against Western Conference foes. The list of Western Conference teams will see each opponent within the conference play twice plus one or two more games against teams in the West. The remaining six to seven games will be against Eastern Conference opponents.
Seattle Sounders will start their season in early February due to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup to be held in Morocco. The match schedule has not yet been announced.
The league’s five CONCACAF Champions League participants – Austin FC, LAFC, Orlando City FC, Philadelphia Union and Vancouver Whitecaps – will begin play in the Round of 16 between March 7 and 9.
The 2023 MLS All-Star Game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19 at Audi Stadium, home of D.C. United. The discount will be announced at the Football League Showcase Event at a later date.
