Tom Hanks reveals how he gave some tough love to his youngest son, Truman, in Graham Norton.

The 66-year-old actor plays the titular role in A Man Called Otto with his 26-year-old son playing a younger version of the character.

In an interview, set to air Friday night, Tom said how he told Truman not to rely on his famous last name and “had to hit the marks” when playing young Otto.

The film follows Tom portraying Otto, a grumpy widower who forms an unlikely friendship with a spirited young family when they move next door.

Speaking of working alongside his son on the film, due to be released to UK cinemas on January 6, Tom says: ‘Truman plays my younger character, but he’s not the actor in the family – he’s an artist and he’s going to be a cinematographer.

We talked about it a lot and it was all his choice, but I told him, “No matter what your last name is, you have to hit the marks.”

Playing the role of “the weirdest guy in America,” Tom jokes, “It’s so cool to get out my inner anger.”

The movie is also called The World’s Worst Neighbor in Spanish, as El Peor Vecino Del Mundo.

Tom and his wife, Rita, will star in the cast of director Wes Anderson’s new film, Asteroid City, which is due for release next year.

Tom will also star in the new movie Here, starring alongside Kelly Reilly, Robin Wright and Paul Bettany.
