Tesla CEO and Twitter head Elon Musk believes that Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), co-founder and former CEO of collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, donated more than the publicly announced amount to support the Democratic Party in the election.

Bankman-Fried was the second largest donor to the Democratic Party, after billionaire George Soros, in the 2021-2022 election cycle. According to Opensecrets, he donated $39,884,256 to the Democrats before FTX collapsed and he had to file for bankruptcy. An estimated one million clients and investors lost billions of dollars in the stock market crash. FTX is currently being investigated for mismanaging client funds.

Musk’s statement came in response to a comment on Twitter that Bankman-Fried’s $40 million donation to avoid jail time after stealing more than $10 billion is one of the highest-return-on-investment (ROI) deals ever. Musk has claimed that the $40 billion is just the publicly announced number, stating that Bankman-Fried’s actual electoral support for the Democratic Party is “probably” more than $1 billion. “The money went somewhere, where did it go?” tweeted the Tesla chief.

While his donations to the Democratic Party were known to the public, Bankman-Fried claimed in an interview that he had also donated a similar amount to the Republican Party. However, he said that all of his Republican donations have been “bleak.”

At the time of writing, Musk’s tweet has garnered more than 4,500 comments and been liked more than 124,000 times. While some people agreed with the Tesla boss, many were shocked by Musk’s accusations, demanding that the billionaire provide evidence to support his statement.

“This is literally misinformation,” one of them is exclaimed. else Wrote:”[Musk] Insinuating that the SBF violated federal election contribution laws.” III opened: “Serious accusations from Elon Musk about POTUS accepting stolen money to run for president.” Some people reminded Musk that Bankman Fried had already made it clear that he donated the same amount to the Republicans. Twitter user Justin Higgins warned:

This statement is incredibly irresponsible. Musk has now made Twitter an overtly anti-Democratic company. No-nonsense, a company that wants strong bipartisan relationships on Capitol Hill will announce on Twitter. I can’t see how the Twitter $ad is back…

Others simply wondered why the SBF wasn’t in jail yet. “We can all commit white collar crimes and pay people back?” One Requested. Several people confirmed that they want the politicians to return the “stolen” money they received from the former CEO of FTX.
