New Delhi:
makers Barbie The movie shared its trailer on Friday and caused a social media buzz for more than one reason. First of all, the movie’s lead actress Margot Robbie is absolutely perfect as a walking and talking Barbie actress. The other thing about the video that the internet absolutely loved is the iconic scene homage to Stanley Kubrick 2001: A Space Odyssey. Directed by Greta Gerwig, which takes a leaf from the “Dawn of Man” sequence from the 1968 film, it features young girls playing with their baby dolls accompanied by a voiceover by Helen Mirren: “Since the beginning of time, since there was ever the first child, there have been dolls. But dolls were Always baby dolls so…” Enter Barbie. It’s Margot Robbie as Barbie who appears out of nowhere instead of a monolith, which leads to a wake of sorts while Richard Strauss Thus spoke Zarashtra playing in the background.
The teaser also features a flamboyant montage of Ryan Gosling (who portrays Ken) in a blink-and-mortar look, Simu Liu in a dance sequence, Issa Rae and a glimpse into the bright world of Barbie.
