MLB RUMORS: Dansby Swanson, Braves Barely Talks; Evan Longoria and Justin Turner are hot

Spring training camps open in just over two months and there are still plenty of hot stove activities to be had now and again. Just under half of our top 50 free agents are still unsigned And the commercial market has not yet recovered. That should happen soon enough. Here are the hot Friday rumors around the stove.

Brave, Swanson had minimal conversations

Braves and free agent Dansby Swanson have not had any real negotiations since the start of the season, MLB.com reports. That can always change with one phone call. At some point earlier this year, the team offered a six-year deal worth $17 million or so per year in return for the former shortstop, though free agency has been very active. Players get paid more than expected.

Vaughn Grissom is Atlanta’s best infielder, and he’s more of a second baseman or even a cornerback than a shortstop. Carlos Correa, which may cost twice as much as Swanson charges, is the only other elite stop on the market. Elvis Andrus and José Iglesias are available, and commercial candidates are Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Paul DeJong.

Many teams interested in Longoria, Turner

Veteran third basemen Evan Longoria and Justin Turner have received interest from several teams, to me The New York Post. The Diamondbacks are on both players, plus the Dodgers and Marlins are among those in pursuit of Turner. There are other teams participating as well. Longoria and Turner are both ranked in our top 50 free agents.

Now, 37, Longoria has indicated that he prefers to play near his home in Arizona, though he also wants to play for a rival. He’s struggled with injuries the past two seasons but has been productive when he’s on the field. The 38-year-old Turner started last season slowly and then had a brutal second half in keeping with his best seasons.

D-Backs players are getting attention

The Diamondbacks are deep into MLB-ready left-handed batters and are taking calls from those players, according to reports. Arizona Republic. Among the teams to check in on are the Astros, Athletics, Blue Jays, Brewers, Marlins, Reds, White Sox, and Yankees. The D-Backs call for help from the catcher and on the left side of the field in return, ideally right-handed hitters.

We’ve collectively ranked our Arizona players as the #4 trade favorite this offseason. The group includes top-flight players Jake McCarthy and Dolton Farshaw, Corbin Carroll and Alec Thomas, and potential Triple A Dominic Fletcher. Carroll is the best potential player on the field It is presumably banned, and Pharshaw would be hard to part with given its production. All other characters to be available.

Lugo is being pursued as a starter

Righty free agent Seth Lugo is being pursued by the Dodgers, Padres, and Nationals, According to the New York Post, and they are willing to give him a chance to start. The 33-year-old has started 38 games in parts of seven big league seasons for the Mets, but has made only seven appearances (all in 2020) in the past four years. He has been primarily a loyalist since 2018.

Convenient transfers to rookies late in a player’s career are very uncommon. The most recent success story is CJ Wilson, who made the transition at the age of 29 in 2010. However, teams know more about pitching than ever before these days, and Lugo regularly throws four pitches. He’s as good a candidate to make the transition from reliever to starter in his 30s as anyone.

The Nationals contract with Williams

The Nationals signed Trevor Williams to a two-year contract. MASN Sports reports. the athlete The deal was set at $13 million. Washington’s rotation numbers include Patrick Corbin, Josiah Gray and juniors Cady Cavalli and Mackenzie Gore. Williams, 30, could serve as the No. 5 starter and also switch to the bullpen should another young arm emerge from the system. Either way, the Nationals are going to need a veteran pitcher to take in the runs and make sure the kids don’t tire out while rebuilding.
