Furious Jets fans are calling on Zack Wilson to leave the Big Apple after a bad showing against the Jaguars
New York Jets quarterback Zack Wilson appeared again Thursday night for the second time in his last three games as the Jets lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 19-3.
Wilson fared very poorly for the Jets, throwing 9-18 for 92 yards and an interception before benching fourth-string QB Chris Streveler, who was promoted from the practice squad hours before game time.
Fans on social media who raved about Wilson’s slapdash performance wasted no time describing the game as the death of the second year of the New York QB’s career.

Wilson performed poorly throughout the game recording only 90 yards and a turnover

Because he could not throw the ball, the Jets could not start a running game either
“We just watched the end of Zack Wilson’s career in New York,” said one fan.
Another said “I think the Zackolson era is over… I’ve gotta produce.” “Zach Wilson is really bad at quarterback, huh,” said a different, but equally frustrated fan.
Wilson admitted after the match that he understood why the fans were upset.
“I just felt like I had no rhythm there,” said the 23-year-old. I was just trying to find some confidence on the court and I was trying to find something to get us going, a little spark, but I wasn’t getting anything there, man.
I have been given opportunities. We will come back and watch it. At the moment, the feeling is that I should lower my head and get better.
Meanwhile, Jets head coach Robert Salih told reporters that the reason they switched to Striveler “was more to start the running game.”
The calls for Wilson’s death weren’t limited to fans calling him to a sit down over the jet attack and booing louder and louder at MetLife. They also came from members of the media who were watching.
“That’s just not part of the thing anymore. I really think they need to hire Chris Striefler now,” said Zach Rosenblatt of the Athletics.
Rosenblatt also said at one point before sitting down: “That’s not part of the thing anymore. I really think they need to hire Chris Striveler now.
“I’d be very surprised if Saleh didn’t make a QB change from the half,” said SNY’s Connor Rogers.

He also called out and covered members of the media watching the game with Wilson’s head during the game

NFL Friday Night Football quarterback Andrew Whitworth said after the game that he doesn’t see how the Jets can get back to playing Wilson this year.
The post-game crew from the Thursday Night Football broadcast also seemed to put a thorn in Wilson’s chances of starting again anytime soon, after Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez asked if it was time to ‘let go’ on Wilson.
“Look at it, I mean how are you going to get back from here,” said former all-pro Andrew Whitworth.
Two weeks ago I checked it out, you can justify Mike White. You’re pulling him today for a man you raised him from [the] training squad. I don’t know how to come back from that at this moment.
As mentioned, Wilson was originally benched after struggling badly against the New England Patriots when he only amassed 77 yards the entire game.
Besides the awful performance against New England, Wilson struggled to be productive over the other seven games he started this season, often leaving the team’s top defense to shoulder the load in games.

Wilson also failed to take the slightest bit of responsibility in the aftermath of the stinking offense against the Patriots, which reportedly rubbed several teammates the wrong way and greatly contributed to his bench.
Although Wilson has won five out of the eight games he started this season, he’s only averaged 287 yards and 21 points per game not counting Thursday’s abomination from the performance.
On the other hand, Mike White only went 1-2 in the three games he started, but averaged 420 yards of offense and a more productive albeit 22 points per game.
After switching to Streveler, the Jets offense seemed to come alive for the first time all night as he led the team in a rush and finished just two yards short of Wilson.

Besides getting the passing game, Streveler also leads the team in rushing yards
Streveler finished the night throwing for 10-15, 90 yards, and 72.1 QBR, to go along with 54 rushing yards on nine carries, in just about a quarter and a half football.
Wilson’s lesson on how not to run the offense right on the other hand ended with him throwing 9-18, 92 yards, 1 interception, and 5.2 QR, after starting the game and continuing into the third quarter of play.
Jets great Daryl Rivas even took to Twitter to comment on Wilson’s death by saying that Zach Wilson had lost the trust of the Jets fan base.
I’m not saying it’s impossible. It will be very difficult to win back their trust again. I saw the same boo when Brett Farv was under center.
One thing is for sure. If fans and members of the media have their way, Wilson will be shipped out from New York on the next available plane – just like Farve back after his temporary retirement put an end to his time in New York.
