Meghan Markle and Prince Harry believe the pressure of their lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, which owns The Mail and the online mailwhich led to her miscarriage.

In the second part of Netflix’s Harry and Megan The documentary, which dropped on Thursday, has the couple talking about her miscarriage in 2020. At the time, the pair had recently left England, abdicated their two senior royals, and moved to England. suit The actress is in California with their son, Archie. In addition to the ongoing negative coverage of “Megxit,” Markle has been — with Harry’s blessing — suing mail on sunday Because she posted excerpts from a private message she sent her father, Thomas Markle, after he did not attend their 2018 royal wedding.

The couple’s lawyer, Jenny Afia, said Markle would text her at 3am about the case. “She will be awake, unable to sleep, and thinking about this issue and the broader issues and the toll it causes,” she said. “I knew the stress [it] It was on Megan.”

At the time, they had just moved into their new home in Santa Barbara for a fresh start (after staying at Tyler Perry’s house temporarily). to her suit Co-star Abigail Spencer recalls visiting the house that first day and Markle telling her she was in “a lot of pain” because she had Archie in her arms. Then, Markle “just fell to the ground.”

“I was pregnant, I really didn’t sleep,” Markle said. “And the first morning we woke up in our new home was when I miscarried.”

Harry said: “I think my wife had a miscarriage because of what happened Mail I did. I watched it all. Now do we fully know that the cause of miscarriage is just that? Of course, we don’t. But considering the stress of the lack of sleep and the timing of the pregnancy, how many weeks she was in, I can say from what I saw, that this miscarriage was caused by what they were trying to do to her.”

“I thought she was brave and brave” during the ordeal, Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, said, “but it doesn’t surprise me because she’s brave and brave.”

The Duchess publicly shared her miscarriage four months later in A The New York Times editorial. The couple welcomed baby rainbow Lilibet “Lily” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in June 2021.

Markle ended up winning a privacy lawsuit against the British tabloid in February 2021. In December of that year, she received a public apology from mail on sunday.

Markle also said that the lawsuit changed everything with the royal family. When she initially said she wanted to sue, the Royal Institution did not honor her request. This led to legal action against her tabloids.

“Everything changed after that,” Megan said. “This litigation was likely the catalyst for all of the collapse.”

Among the other interesting bits of the documentary was Harry claiming his brother Prince William yelled and yelled at him during the Sandringham Summit in January 2020.

Leading up to this, Markle struggled with suicidal thoughts amid negative press (some of it allegedly planted by minors and much of it, in general, racist in nature) and said she wasn’t able to get mental health help because the foundation was. You worry about what that will look like. Harry admitted that he knew his wife was struggling and “felt angry and ashamed” that he hadn’t “handled her well. I dealt with her as Harry’s foundation unlike husband Harry.” Then, they knew they needed to make changes — and announced in early January that they would step down from their position as senior working members of the royal family.

“I sent an email to the three most senior private secretaries saying, ‘Let’s get together, let’s get together and talk about this,'” Harry said. “Because what was going on, what was going on in public was crazy. And that meeting was denied.”

Markle took Archie and went to Canada, where she stayed before moving to the UK. At that point, a meeting was arranged at Sandringham with Harry and the late Queen Elizabeth, King Charles and now Prince Williams.

Harry said it was “obvious” to him that they planned so Markle wasn’t in the room. She said, “Imagine a conversation, a round-table discussion about the future of your life. When the stakes are high. And you as a mother, wife and target are, in many respects, not invited to a seat at the table.”

The meeting lasted more than 90 minutes at the king’s country estate in Norfolk.

“I made the same suggestion we’ve already made publicly,” Harry said. “But once I got there I was given five options. One being ‘all in, no change’, the five ‘all out’. I chose the third at the meeting ‘half in, half out’. We have our own jobs but also work in support of the Queen.” .

He said William was angered by his decision.

“It became clear very quickly that this goal was not up for discussion or discussion,” Harry said. “It was terrifying to have my brother yelling and yelling at me, my dad saying things that simply weren’t true, and my grandma just sitting there quietly eating it all.”

He said the meeting “ended without any solid plan of action… I think from their point of view, they should have believed it was about us and maybe the issues we had, as opposed to their partners and the media and themselves. That relationship that was causing us so much pain. They saw What they wanted to see.”

Harry called “the saddest part of it” all this wedge it had created between me and my brother, so now he’s on the side of the establishment. Part of that, I understand, right, that’s his legacy. So to some extent, it’s already been ingrained in him that part of his responsibility is the survival and continuation of this institution.”

On the day of the summit, a joint statement was released from William and Harry denying the rift between the brothers was caused by William’s “bullying”. However, Harry said the statement was made without his permission.

Harry said of the statement: “Within four hours they are happy to lie to protect my brother, and yet, for three years, they have been unwilling to tell the truth to protect us.”

That moment changed everything for them. Markle said something “clicked in my head” that he would “never stop”. Every rumor, every negative thing, every lie, everything I knew wasn’t true and that the palace knew wasn’t true and that they knew inwardly wasn’t true, that was only allowed to fester.”

Harry said he realized, “There was no other choice at this point. I said, ‘We need to get out of here.'”

Narrating that Markle was behind their stepping down, he added, “It was my decision. She never asked to leave. It was me who had to see it myself.”
