2023 Transfer Portal: Latest post on the highest rated QBs available

Fact of the day in the transfer portal: Four of the last six Heisman Trophy winners have been transfer quarterbacks.

The quarterback’s movement is very important in college football. With the 2023 Transfer Gate tournament moving at a fast pace, it’s time to check out some of the best midfielders on the market. Here’s the latest we hear from 247Sports.

Devin LearyQB, NC State
247 Sports Transfer Ranking: No. 1 QB

Seen as an early draft pick that season, Leary performed well for NC State before a season-ending injury. He finished the 2022 season with 1,265 yards passing, 11 touchdowns against 4 interceptions while completing 64% of his passes. with the MJ Morris The era starting at NC State, Leary chose to go into the gate.

There was a lot of smoke around Leary on this course, tying it up with places like Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Missouri. But industry sources cited 247 Sports narrowing Kentucky to Leary as their highest goaltender in the gate. The Wildcats need to replace their outgoing QB Will Levis, and Leary would provide a bridge to the NFL cap. Other teams, like Auburn, can still find their way into the mix with Leary, too.

Grayson McCallQB, Coastal Carolina

The most productive QB in the gate, McCall finished his career at Coastal Carolina with 8,019 yards and 78 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions. He also completed 70.4% of his passes for an average of 10.3 yards per attempt. These are elite numbers.

So far, Auburn has emerged as a team McCall has faded solidly. 247Sports’ Brandon Marcelo reported earlier this week that McCall will be making an official visit to The Plains, pressing ahead with the NCAA season finale that begins Monday. I’ve also heard positive things about McCall and Auburn talking to sources. He is believed to be an excellent scheme suitable for Hugh Friese’s crime.

It’s also worth mentioning Liberty as a possible destination. The Flames, led by former head coach McCall Jamie Shadwellmakes a lot of sense if McCall wants to continue what has proven to be a highly productive system.

Colin ShelleyQB, Kent State

Unless you love MAC Midweek Football, you probably haven’t heard of Schlee. But he’s been a common name in college recruiting circles ever since he decided to hit the transfer portal last week. A first-year starter for the Golden Flashes, Shelley finished the season with an overall grade of 88.1 PFF, ranking him the No. 16 QB in the country, and only one spot behind McCall. He played great competition as well, doing well against Washington, Oklahoma, and Georgia.

The team to watch here is UCLA, which is where he’s currently visiting, according to the source. Schlee has been offered several programs thus far, but I think the Bruins are in excellent shape for him.

Brennan ArmstrongQB, Virginia

Armstrong is an interesting case. Just two years ago, he led the Power Five with 4,449 yards while kicking 31 touchdowns while completing 65.2% of his passes. Then his head coach, offensive coordinator, and half of Virginia’s offensive line left. And 2022 is not going well as a result. Armstrong has been one of the worst P5 QBs this season, he has thrown nearly twice as many INTs (12) as he has touchdowns (7) with a completion percentage of just 54.7%.

This erratic play makes Armstrong a difficult assessment. But most teams view 2022 more as an aberration than a trend, and it certainly has some interest. Armstrong paid an official state visit to Oklahoma earlier this week, according to a source, and is currently in Wisconsin for a visit.

Badgers are looking to replace Mertz. New attack coordinator Phil Longo, who directs the air raid, seems to fit in naturally with Armstrong. The Ohio product is also seen in the geographic suitability of what Luke Fickell would like to build. Cowboys, who will replace Spencer Sandersalso operates a fast-paced deployment system that matches what Armstrong did in Virginia in 2021.

Both teams would like to land Armstrong as they look to reset offensively.

Other QB cases to watch

Our Lady: Things have been relatively quiet in the midfield with Notre Dame, but that doesn’t mean the Irish aren’t shopping. Notre Dame will add someone out of season. Speaking of QBs who can choose to enter the gate, it’s worth mentioning Tulane Michael Pratt Wissam Harman of Wake Forest. I’ve mentioned Pratt before as someone who is likely to enter the gate. There has been a lot of industry chatter about this as a possibility. But it is currently unknown if Pratt will return to school, test the NFL draft waters or transfer. Hartmann is in a similar situation. The difference is his head coach, Dave ClawsonHe pitched the idea to the world last week.

If Hartman and Pratt get into the gate, I expect Notre Dame and Florida to be very interested.
