Texas beats Louisville to win the NCAA Volleyball Tournament

Omaha, Nebraska – Logan Eggleston walked to the podium for the press conference following the end of the volleyball season for Texas on Saturday night.

This in itself was not out of the ordinary. Eggleston, team captain for the past four years, has long represented the Longhorns in end-of-season sessions with the media. As a sophomore in 2019, she had to find the words to explain the Sweet 16’s stunning loss to Louisville. During the pandemic season that ended in April 2021, I stared at the Zoom screen and talked about facing Kentucky in the championship game. After Nebraska upset the Longhorns last season in the Elite Eight, she broke down while talking about the departures of UT seniors Brionne Butler and Sydney Petersen.

But on Saturday night, things were different.

Along with head coach Gerrit Elliott and longtime teammate Asjia O’Neal, Eggleston sat proudly on the podium at CHI Health Center. She was wearing ski goggles, a festive T-shirt and hat, and a wide smile.
