How is the 2022 Evo C2 improved?

The LG Evo C2 4K OLED TV is the successor to the extremely popular and highly rated LG C1. There are two major improvements of note. The LG C2 uses a superior “Evo” OLED panel previously only found in LG Gallery Series OLED TVs. The Evo panel delivers higher peak brightness, specs that OLED generally loses to traditional LED LCD TVs. The other upgrade is weight, although a “downgrade” would be more appropriate. The LG Evo C2 uses a composite fiber for its rear cabinet which cuts the weight down to just 32 lbs without the stand. LG C1 weighs 59 lbs!

What’s good about OLED?

If money is no object, then OLED TVs are considered to be the best TVs you can buy right now. Of all the OLED TV manufacturers, LG is considered by many to be the best. LG OLED TVs benefit from several generations of improvements. The first LG OLED TV (55-inch model) was released in 2010, long before other manufacturers brought consumer-ready TVs to market. Fast forward more than a decade later, and the world has pretty much unanimously agreed that now, OLED technology can’t be beat. Compared to traditional LED LCD TVs, it offers better picture quality, deeper blacks, better contrast ratio, wider color gamut, and ultra-fast response times. Because of these advantages, OLED TVs are the best at displaying HDR content in all its glory

But is this TV good for gaming?

OLED technology aside, the LG C2 has all the features you’d want in a gaming TV, too. It has a 120Hz panel and four HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K playback at 120Hz on a PC with a PS5, Xbox Series X, or RTX 30 series. It also supports variable refresh rate (VRR), which is this TV’s version of adaptive sync technology, as well as a mode Auto Low Latency (ALLM), which means the TV automatically switches to a lower latency while gaming. The LG C2 also supports HGiG, which is similar to Dolby Vision HDR but is for gaming. The game console will basically be able to identify your exact TV model and apply your TV’s Enhanced HDR settings, a kind of automatic HDR color calibration if you will. It takes a lot of involved tweaking on your part (which most people tend to completely ignore) and thus delivers a better HDR picture out of the box.
