Deals from Xbox sales

Heidi – Aries cult

I’m so glad Cult of the Lamb is finally on sale, so I can talk about it – this one is too Great. It’s just pure fun. Just like its art style which mixes cute and scary elements, Cult of the Lamb combines dungeon crawling with base building, and as with the art style, this combination really works. The game begins with our sacrifice – or at least it will, if we’re not rescued at the last minute by a mysterious stranger. In turn, we have to build a sect in the name of the stranger; Recruit members, take care of them, and go out into the world to destroy rival cults and collect resources. One of the ways this combination of base building and dungeon crawling works is that there is always something to do. Want a change from decorating and upgrading your base? Go out for a run to defeat your enemies and explore the world. Tired of fighting? Go back to your sect to take an interest in the needs of its members – and believe me, they are needy. The Cult of the Lamb’s gameplay loop, though, will probably keep you from getting bored of any part of it, and things will be thrown further into chaos by your cult’s bizarre requests – they want you to kill them! They want to eat crap! They want to resolve their differences in a fight! And all the while, you’ll need to perform rituals, deliver sermons, maintain your cult, defeat your enemies, and watch out for discontent among your followers. At 20% off, it’s a great deal for Cult of the Lamb.

Aries cult

Aries cult

Cult of the Lamb casts players into the role of a possessed Lamb who is rescued from annihilation by an ominous stranger and must repay their debt by building a loyal following in his name. Start your own cult in the land of false prophets, set out across diverse and mysterious regions to build a loyal community of forest worshipers and spread your word to become the only true cult.

Build your squadron
Collect resources and use them to build new structures, perform dark rituals to appease the gods, and give sermons to strengthen the faith of your flock.

Destroy the unbelievers
Explore a sprawling, randomly generated world, battle hordes of enemies and defeat rival cult leaders in order to absorb their power and assert your cult’s dominance.

Spread your word
Train your flock and set out on a quest to explore and discover the secrets of four mysterious regions. Cleanse unbelievers, spread enlightenment, and perform mystical rituals on the journey to become the mighty Aries God.

Sean

Sean – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla + Watch Dogs: Legion Bundle

A massive Assassin’s Creed and a decent Watch Dogs title for $32.99 / £32.99 / €38.99? You can’t go wrong there! My sales pick this week is the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion bundle, which for the previously mentioned price, I think is a very good deal. You’ll get a great, if slightly bloated, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that will keep you entertained for hours, and Watch Dogs: Legion, which is a perfectly serviceable Watch Dogs game – it’s not Watch Dogs 2, sure, but it’s still good enough. . In Valhalla, you play as Viking warrior Eivor, who sets out to found a new Viking clan in England, but soon finds himself (or herself) caught up in a conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templars. The Valhalla base game in itself is an absolute beast, thanks to its massive open world that will have you exploring every inch of Viking Age England and beyond. Watch Dogs: Legion, on the other hand, takes you to a dystopian London set in the not too distant future. In Legion, the hacking group DedSec is framed for a series of terrorist attacks, which results in a private military corporation taking control of the streets of London to enforce harsh new laws. It becomes your job to clear the DedSec name as you recruit new members to your cause. Legion features an interesting mechanic where you can play as any of the game’s NPCs who are roaming the streets. It’s an interesting and daring mechanism, but ultimately falls a bit flat. However, Legion is a good open world game that will provide some entertainment.

Tom

Tom – Second Extinction

If you missed your chance to play Second Extinction before Xbox Game Pass left in October, now’s the time to grab it, as it’s currently offering 20% off. It’s not their cheapest at all, but I think it’s definitely worth the price tag. If you enjoy co-op shooters but have had enough of zombies, aliens, and monsters, then Second Extinction’s dinosaur-themed gameplay might be just what you need. One of the coolest parts of the game is the open world, non-linear approach to each mission, which provides plenty of opportunities to explore the area and tackle the objectives the way you want. The final extraction sequences that see you filled with flesh-hungry monsters are also particularly fun to take part in. While it’s not loved by everyone, I definitely think it’s a great game, and maybe you are.
