Google Trends releases the most searched Christmas cookie in every state

The most popular cookies in America for 2022 are sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, and peanut butter blossoms, according to Google Trends data.

Driving news: Google on Thursday released a map of uniquely searched Christmas cookies by state based on searches between December 3 and 9.

The Big Picture: Consumers will buy or bake Christmas cookies to serve or give as gifts to family members and friends before the holidays.

• Sweets are on the Christmas shopping list for 61% of holiday celebrants, according to a Numerator survey of 1,510 consumers.

How it works: Google told Axios that its map “represents uniquely searched cookies across the US” and defines “uniquely searched, as a term that is over-represented in a region compared to a country.”

• Linzer cookies were searched uniquely in Massachusetts, meaning the state was searched for more than the United States as a whole, Jenny Lee, principal analyst at Google Trends, told Axios.

what are they saying: “Although Christmas cookies remain pretty consistent annually, it’s the kinds of cookies people are looking for each year that makes these results so interesting,” Lee said.

• Lee said the data showed a strong presence of international-style cookies, especially on the East Coast with a high concentration of Italian Christmas cookies.

In numbers: Gingerbread was the top cookie for seven states and D.C. while peanut butter cookie varieties were the most searched for in seven states.

• Google data found that six states had an Italian Christmas cookie as the most searched cookie and five Christmas sugar cookies.

recovery: Last year, four states had Keto cookies, and four more states had gluten-free Christmas cookies as the most searched for holiday cookies.
