Many K-pop idols will debut in 2022. However, many K-pop idols have left their groups for several reasons. Some have been kicked out of their group; Others left on their own. Here are some of the groups that lost members in 2022.

Secret Number’s Denise has taken to Instagram to announce her departure from the group and her agency, Vine Entertainment. On February 5, Denise released a statement in Korean and English on her Instagram account stating that her contract with her agency had expired, and that she would be withdrawing from the group.

Dongyo Entertainment, DONGKIZ’s agency, made an official announcement on March 18 that DONGKIZ will be rebranding as DKZ and that the Wondae member, who has been on hiatus due to an injury, will be leaving the group. Following the doctor’s advice, Wondae eventually decides to leave.

BANDAGE’s Lim Hyung-bin left the group. On April 4, IST Entertainment, the group’s agency, released an official statement stating that the member had ended his activities with BANDAGE and parted ways with the group at the end of March this year. After much discussion with the other three members about their different views on their future, he decides to leave.
Pink

Apink’s Son Na-eun left the group after eleven years of being in it. Na-eun shared a handwritten message on Instagram on April 8, 2022, stating her decision to quit the group. She was the only Apink member who did not renew her contract with IST Entertainment last year. She is currently signed with YG Entertainment as an actress.
Oh my girl

In May 2022, Jiho, a member of OH MY GIRL, left the group and its agency, WM Entertainment, after seven years. On May 9, the agency made an announcement that Jiho was leaving the group as her contract was expiring and decided not to renew her contract with them. Jiho also posted a handwritten message on the group’s fan cafe addressing the matter.

Guk Seung-jun, better known as Chiwoo, left his group Kingdom and its agency GF Entertainment this year. On May 25, the agency issued an official statement to this effect. According to the statement, Chiwoo has terminated his contract due to personal circumstances and has announced his departure from the boy band and agency.

Weeekly’s Shin Ji-yeon left the group in 2022 due to mental health concerns. On June 1, the group’s agency, IST Entertainment, announced that Ji-yoon had permanently left the group to focus on mental health. According to the statement, she has been suffering from anxiety since her debut, and has taken a break twice due to mental health issues. One returns in August 2021 and the other in March this year.

According to the agency’s statement, after a long talk and in-depth discussion with the group, members Minsu, Jerome, and Woonggi decided to leave from TO1. On July 15, ICHILLIN’s agency, KM Entertainment, released an official statement regarding member Sohee’s departure from the group. Le Sserafim, a rookie girl group, lost a member just three months after their debut. Shortly after their debut, member Kim Garam was placed on a temporary hiatus. On July 20, Source Music, the group’s agency, released an official statement announcing that the company had decided to terminate their exclusive contract with Kim Garam after the controversy over bullying at school.
Fromis_9

On July 28, Fromis_9’s agency, PLEDIS Entertainment, made an announcement that Fromis_9 will be active as an eight-member group as member Jang Gyuri’s original contract with her former agency has expired and she has not signed a new contract with PLEDIS. She is currently signed with Just Entertainment as an actress.
black Swan

South Korean members of K-pop girl group BLACKSWAN, Youngheun and Judy have parted ways with the group. On July 31, BLACKSWAN’s agency DR Music announced on Instagram that Jodie and Yonghyun will be leaving BLACKSWAN after graduating from the group. Both members decide to take different paths to achieve their new dreams.

K-pop girl group Satbayeul and Ella left the group. On August 27, PIXY’s agency, Allart Entertainment, made an announcement regarding the matter via the group’s fan cafe. Both Ela and Satbiul decide to leave due to health reasons. Prior to the announcement, both members were on hiatus due to health reasons.

A girl group under UMI Entertainment, PRECIOUS has lost three of its five members this year. Members Ji Hyo, Lee Soo, and Han Byeol have terminated their contracts and left the group. Lee Soo has been on hiatus for about a year. Although Han Byeol’s hiatus has been in effect since 2021, it was only announced in March 2022. Since the beginning of the year, Ji-Hyo has not been participating in activities.
VICTON

VICTON’s Heo Chan quit the group after a controversy over his drunk driving. On October 11, IST Entertainment, the group’s agency, made an official announcement that VICTON, would be reorganizing as a six-member group as vocalist Heo Chan decided to leave permanently from the group so as not to cause further damage to his bandmate due to the controversy.

The young girl group LIGHTSUM lost two members in 2022. The group’s agency, Cube Entertainment, made an announcement on October 25 through an official statement that LIGHTSUM has reorganized as a six-member group and that members Huiyeon and Jian are officially withdrawing from the group. No clear reasons are given as to why the LIGHTSUM girls left.
ONEUS

On October 27, RBW, the agency of boy group ONEUS, released an official statement stating that the RAVN member has left the group. According to the statement, RAVN has voluntarily decided to leave the group with the intention of stopping harming the members due to its controversy. Back on October 14, an allegation of cheating was filed against him by an unknown person claiming to be his ex-girlfriend.

In 2022, two members of Treasure have left the group. In May 2022, YG Entertainment announced the hiatus of Bang Yedam and Takata Mashiho. Later, on November 8, the agency revealed via Weverse that both members had decided to terminate their contracts and officially left TREASURE. According to YG’s statement, Mashiho quit due to health issues, and Yedam did so in order to grow as a producer with distinct qualities.

PURPLE KISS vocalist Park Ji Eun left the group in November. PURPLE KISS’s agency, RBW Entertainment, announced via the group’s fan cafe that Park Ji Eun has left the group due to her poor health and anxiety symptoms. She visited the hospital, where the specialists advised her of the need for adequate rest and stability. She thanked her fans in a handwritten letter.
London

LOONA member Chuu has been removed from the group by her agency Blockberry Creative. On November 25, the agency released an official statement at LOONA’s official fan cafe. It was announced that Cho had been fired and pulled from the group for allegedly abusing her power, particularly by using abusive language towards agency employees.
NMIXX

The last group to lose a member in 2022 was JYP Entertainment’s young girl group NMIXX. On December 9, the agency made an official announcement that Jinni will be leaving both the group and JYP Entertainment due to personal circumstances and that her exclusive contract with the agency has been terminated.
