Samsung is recalling several models of top-loading washers that can short circuit and overheat, posing a fire hazard, and according to a press release from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Samsung has received 51 reports of smoking, melting, overheating, or fire. Washing machines, 10 of which resulted in property damage. Three consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries. Washers in white, black, champagne, and ivory colors were sold at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other hardware stores nationwide and online at Samsung.com from June 2021 through December 2022 for between $900 and $1,500. If you own one of these washing machines, Samsung advises that you check the device’s software to see if it has been updated to prevent danger, and if not, immediately stop using the washer until the software is updated.
