Kody Brown has only one wife.

On Thursday, PEOPLE shared an EXCLUSIVE clip in which Merry Brown confirmed that her marriage to Cody was over — and it was his decision to walk away. This comes shortly after Kodi and Janelle Brown confirmed their split, and a year after Kristen Brown and Kodi announced their split after more than 25 years of marriage.

With so many changes for the Brown family in the past year, here’s an updated on the status of Kodi’s relationship with each wife as 2022 ends.

“You know, our first anniversary here in Flagstaff, it was a tribute to a new beginning, unlike this last anniversary, he was like, ‘I don’t even know why you called me, Merry.'” She said: “We are not married. We don’t act like we’re married.”

Merry continued, “I said to him: If this is where we are, don’t you think we should address that publicly?” And he said, “No, I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t want it to come out publicly because I don’t want this ruling.”

Although the former couple confirmed they were no longer married, Merry said she was “definitely” open to a reconciliation — though she added, “I don’t think he’s interested.”

This breakup comes years after Merry and Cody entered into a platonic relationship, rather than a romantic marriage. Although they had been happily married for some time, the scandal of Miri in 2015—in which Miri was murdered by someone pretending to be a woman—changed the nature of their relationship.

Although Cody used the words “separated” and “divorced” to his other wives, he did not make it clear how he viewed Merry, even though they were no longer married.

Gabe recounted that Cody called him to talk about COVID – not realizing that the phone call happened on Gabe’s birthday.

“Two hours after that, he tried to call me and tell me happy birthday and make it up to him,” Gabe said in a confession on the show. “And that’s the last time I ever spoke to my dad.”

Kristen Brown was the first wife to leave her group marriage to Kodi. In November 2021, Kristen announced that she was divorcing Cody in a statement on Instagram.

“After more than 25 years together, Cody and I parted ways and I made the difficult decision to leave,” she said in the statement. “We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we raise our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your mercy and kindness as we go through this phase within our family.”

Since then, Kristen has been vocal about being happier since leaving the polygamous marriage. Shortly after announcing their divorce, Kristen opened up about co-parenting with Cody.

“We’ve been very connected to each other and stuff. We have good days and bad, don’t get me wrong. But, we still have a life together after that because we have kids to raise and Truley’s 11,” she said. “So we have to be good and friendly and things like that. I think it’s important to remember that.”

Kristen told PEOPLE that the final straw for Cody’s departure came after he refused to travel for her daughter Ysabel’s scoliosis surgery. “It broke my little girl’s heart,” she said. “I find it really hard to be with a guy I don’t respect. She understood COVID, why he couldn’t come, but she didn’t. And she still has a hard time with it.”
