Derek Hough, Hayley Erbert got into a ‘scary’ car accident before the holidays

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert feel thankful for life after they get into a scary car accident just before the holidays.

The couple shared a video documenting the aftermath of the accident earlier in the month that led to paramedics being called and Erbert getting stitches in the face.

“On December 12th, Derek and I were involved in a very scary car accident in the mountains,” they wrote in a joint statement on Instagram on Friday. “Our accident was a steep hill, icy roads, a tree and, worst of all, the fear that we were going to slide off the mountain.”

In the video, Erbert is seen looking bloodied and bruised as a doctor at the hospital stitches her up. They also filmed the site of the car accident as paramedics and firefighters helped rescue them.

Erbert, 28, looked terrified as she sat in an ambulance, but Hough, 37, later encouraged her by buying lots of snacks from the grocery store for dinner.

“What do you do after you’ve been in a car accident? Go to the emergency room, get stitches.” We treat ourselves to snacks.

They ate ranch-dipped pizza, potato chips, and an assortment of candy.

“What a night,” Hogg said, adding to Erbert, “One of the saddest things about tonight is that I can’t chew candy because it hurts because of this area. A bummer.”

One of the scariest parts of the accident, Hough noted, is that Erbert doesn’t remember anything.

“The scariest part is that Hayley doesn’t remember anything. She was distraught afterward, and she beamed and said we should carry on with dinner because blood was running down her face. That really scared me. She got there 20 minutes later when the firefighters arrived,” he recalls. Hough in the comments section of their posts.

Despite their injuries, the couple said they have a lot to be grateful for after they were rescued by first responders.

“In the circumstances, we have a lot to be grateful for. First, that no other people were involved. Second, the quick response from the paramedics.”

They also noted that their injuries were minor, writing, “We’re both fine” and Erbert “came a little farther away, his face swollen, and four stitches over it.” [her] eyebrow. “

Dancing With The Stars professionals have expressed how grateful they are to live and how interesting their near-death experience was.

“Now, more than ever, we realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you,” they said. “Hope everyone is having a safe, healthy and happy holiday season. XO.”

Friends of the dancers flooded the comments section of the post wishing them a speedy recovery.

“Guys, I’m so glad you two are OK!!! Thank God! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻,” Peta Murgatroyd wrote.

“So glad you guys are alright! I can’t imagine how terrifying that was 😢,” said Lindsey Arnold Cusick.

“Oh my God! Thank God you are both safe. Sending you love and a speedy recovery. You will be munching on candy in no time,” Cheryl Burke added.
