Astrology Weekly Forecast, December 18-24: Take a chance on yourself
This article originally appeared in Yoga Journal
Next week, Jupiter will move into Aries, the Sun will move into Capricorn, and the winter solstice along with the new moon will accompany us during the darkest days of the year. What awaits us on the other side of these transits is something new. Something bold, something that calls us forward into the next chapter of life.
Jupiter enters Aries
On December 20, 2022, Jupiter will move into fiery and independent Aries, where it will stay until the following May.
The planet of luck, expansion, growth, and happiness, Jupiter is the largest extrasolar entity in our solar system. This intensity is consistent with the kind of growth you continually invite us to experience as it moves through the zodiac.
Aries, as the first sign of the zodiac, is the excitement that sparks ideas and sets every step after that in motion. It is inspiration, initiation, and determination.
While in Aries, Jupiter will bring about an expansion of our personal courage, growth in our leadership qualities, and renewal of our inspiration and dynamism. Consider this time as one of luck and luck through action.
Jupiter spent May to October 2022 in the sign of Aries before going retrograde through Pisces. Allow yourself to explore the topics that presented themselves in your life during this time, especially anything related to new ideas, initiatives taken, or new chapters. How have you grown or changed during this time? What thrilled you? Did any desires appear? What, if anything, have you started over these months?
With Jupiter returning to Aries in December, we get a second chance to jump into whatever direction calls our name. For the next five months, our acts of courage, independence, leadership, and initiative will be our tickets to the beautiful opportunities, abundance, and growth that Jupiter wants to shower us with.
winter solstice
It will fall on December 21, 2022, the sacred day of the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere (and the summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere). The word “solstice” is derived from the Latin words sol (sun) f to stop (Let’s stand still). On this day, the earth’s axis reached its maximum inclination away from the sun, and the birth of the shortest and darkest days of the year.
Ancient mystics and astrologers have spoken of the time approaching the winter solstice as a season of initiation with transcending the thresholds of awareness, opportunities to connect with the inner soul, and opening up new paths toward self-realization.
Capricorn season begins
On the darkest day of the year, the sun moves toward the grounded and practical sign of Capricorn, marking the start of his season. When this happens, we have the opportunity to become our own light, to be our own warmth, and to believe in — and say yes to — ourselves and our inner calling above all else.
Capricorn is the sea goat who represents the bridge between spirit and matter. It is a half-fish that can descend deep into our inner oceans of psychic energy just as its twin, half-goat, can reach the heights of outer achievement.
Any zodiac season that begins as Earth moves into a new phase represents new beginnings. It is a new chapter of our lives with central themes of accountability and success and consolidating our goals, visions and dreams into reality. It is a season that reminds us that self-responsibility is a prerequisite for achieving our dreams.
New Moon in Capricorn
December 23, 2022 brings our last New Moon of 2022. With the Moon joining the Sun in Capricorn, we have our wants (the Sun) and our needs (the Moon) together, ushering in a new chapter in our lives.
As the name suggests, the new moon is the beginning of a new lunar cycle. Meeting just two days after the earth begins a new cycle and the sun begins a new season, this new moon is filled with several layers of sparks and layers of elemental energy.
No matter what your sun sign may be, inside each of us is each of the twelve signs of the zodiac. And as the universe immerses itself in and takes in the lens of this ambitious and grounded sign, the Capricorn spark that lives inside each of us also becomes energized.
We meet the parts of ourselves who are instinctively responsible, the parts of ourselves that know we are a match for the dreams that sit in our hearts no matter how hard they feel. We meet and embody the determined, ambitious and patient self. And we rely on ourselves as we systematically approach, plan and build the path of this new beginning.
This new moon serves as an entry point for looking at our next project, as it sits at the transition point to a new year, new energy, and a new chapter in our lives. This is an auspicious opportunity to sit down with any intentions, goals, or dreams you may have for the coming year and let your inner Capricorn get to work.
I invite you
Carl Jung coined the term “synchronicity,” a concept that explores the interdependence between the individual and the universe. It was derived from ancient texts and described when the inner world of the self and the outer world of virtual reality merged. This is when synchronization occurs. A book that enters your life after declaring your interest in a new subject. A friend calls you after it enters your mind. Numbers or symbols that speak of a deeper meaning to your heart appear exactly when needed. Multiple astrological transits—each a cosmic invitation calling you into the same direction of courage, to saying yes to yourself, to new beginnings, and to dedication on your way forward—occur as a new year approaches.
Astrology is one of the many ways we are lucky enough to decipher the language of this unexplainable force of being. When we look at the astrology for the week, it can only be likened to each of us cheering out loud.
Synchronicity can be a reminder that we are part of something greater. Divine coordination of movement and flow. The force of growth and development with which we unite. As the universe invites you this week to take a chance on yourself, let it remind you that you are part of something greater, that you are supported, and that you are loved.
When Jupiter comes into contact with Aries, allow yourself to be excited about your life again. This is fire and fire coming together – pure inspiration, a thirst for becoming, and a desire to live fully.
And when the Sun and Moon turn into Capricorn, bringing with it the Winter Solstice, allow yourself to pin that excitement into your body and plan realistically. There is no big dream, no steep mountain. Capricorn is the sea goat that was literally built to climb the highest mountains, and Aries is the unwavering self-belief that will take you to the top.
