Andor Gets a good deal right –So true, even—About a lot of things in star Warsbut he is slowly but surely learning how to do one thing better: cinematic metaphors In a galaxy far, far away is better when it’s anomalous.
After the events of the theft of the sheep Ripple all over the galaxyIt seemed unlikely that we would be able to see the wonderful things elephant and love–star Wars TV’s first outright gay couple on screen — again, but This week’s episode, “Narkina 5”, catches them briefly when they surreptitiously arrive at Ferrix to try to keep an eye on Cassian’s whereabouts. Unfortunately, no one knew where Cassian was, because he was imprisoned in the Honorary Imperial Prison Realm. After a short conversation that reveals how much each of them is willing to sacrifice their personal lives to commit to fighting the Empire, Cinta decides to stay on Ferrix while Vel goes out of the world. “I’m a mirror, Phil,” Cinta tells her skeptical partner, after she outlines her plan to merge with Ferrix and approach Cassian’s well-known associates. “You love me because I show you what you want to see,” she continues, before tenderly holding Phil’s hand.
If the closeness between the two in previous episodes was so casual that you noticed Phil and Cinta were romantically involved, and you somehow sensed that this conversation was too subtle to know for sure, we’ll get star Wars The most romantic thing imaginable as Phil Glomley takes a shuttle out of the world:
This damned shot is fading away. look at him! distant lovers, staring at different things – an elephant, her eyes matched cleverly to look at Cinta, while Cinta looks away from her, she appears To us, her love for Cinta is still on Vel’s mind, while the mission is on Cinta, as the complete fade shows us that she’s watching Maarva’s house door. It’s full of melancholy and longing, and is a personal example of a theme running throughout “Narkina 5” of how the Empire is tearing people apart in so many ways as it tightens its grip on the galaxy. But also: it’s Unbelievably Like me.
Andor I already understood that he could portray gay people in star Wars Incidentally and as part of its fabric, the galaxy has been where the heterogeneous characters have been from the start. But there’s something fascinating about her approach to evolving Vel and Cinta into something more explicitly scripted (and developed to the point where it’s more engaging and romantic than Heavenly Rise‘s Blink and you’ll miss it queer kiss) by taking one of star WarsThe most consistent in editing excerpts and just…make her gay. It could have been more than that star Wars if it was Scan full screenbut still: It’s great.
