Alex Rodriguez ‘looks happy’ with new girlfriend: ‘They’re both obsessed with fitness,’ says source

Alex Rodriguez met his mighty match.

As a 14-time MLB All-Star, it’s no surprise that Rodriguez makes health and wellness a top priority in his life — and thanks to new girlfriend Jacqueline Cordero, he’s not alone in his fitness-focused endeavors.

“She may be as strict about her own regimen as it is,” a source in Miami told People of the fitness trainer and founder of Jacfit. “Alex and Jacqueline are obsessed with fitness and into working out and body building,” adds the source for the couple, who first became romantically involved in October, per Page Six.

Cordero’s interests align with what the former Yankees player typically looks for in a partner, according to the source: “He wouldn’t date anyone for a few months or longer who doesn’t get into daily fitness. It’s a huge part of his life.”

The source says she’s as into weightlifting, nutrition, and maintenance as bodybuilding—all of which Cordero is never shy about posting on her Instagram account. In fact, she recently shared a video on December 20 of her working out alongside Rodriguez.

Rodriguez made the romance official on Instagram on Saturday, posing with Cordero and his two daughters, 18-year-old Natasha and 14-year-old Ella, in front of a beautifully decorated tree during a Christmas party in New York City.

In addition to sharing a passion for health and wellness, the source says “they also share parenting” since Cordero has two children. “I think she’s serious about him,” the source continues — but adds, “I don’t see Alex getting too serious about anyone right now.”

The source continues, “He’s a good dad and he’s been through Lopez’s breakup a lot, but he seems happy for now. I don’t see anything more than that, at least for now.”

Meanwhile, another A-Rod source — who describes Cordero as beautiful, bright, educated as well as driven in her career and life — says they are happy as a couple. “They are enjoying their life now, but I don’t know how serious it is,” says the source.

An insider previously told PEOPLE in September that Rodriguez and fitness model Katherine Padgett broke up after they started dating over the summer. “I took his course,” said the insider.

Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez officially called off their engagement last April, telling PEOPLE in a statement that they are “best friends and look forward to staying that way.” The couple started dating in 2017, and announced their engagement in March 2019.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankee remains close to Natasha and Ella’s mother Cynthia Scorts, whom he was married to from 2002 to 2008. In April, the four of them fly to Memphis together, with Scorts’ husband, Angel Nicholas, to see the Grizzlies. at the Minnesota Timberwolves, of which Rodriguez owns a part.
