Nope, Tom Cruise, The King’s Woman Among Most Ridiculous Oscar Retirees – IGN
Another year of Oscar nominations, another outcry over films and shows that weren’t nominated.
While there’s a lot to celebrate on social media — like Everything Everywhere dominating 11 nominations and Angela Bassett being the first actress to be nominated for a performance in an MCU movie — there’s also a great deal of outrage over the indignities of films like Jordan Peele’s Nope, which was closed despite critical acclaim. And while the Academy has historically not been keen on rewarding horror, Peele has taken home an Academy Award in the past with Get Out.
I’ll let myself take away one Oscar: It’s a bit surreal that the most visually innovative American picture of the year, made by an Oscar-winning director and featuring huge stars, is never mentioned. But, given what you have to say about the industry and its history, it’s no surprise either! pic.twitter.com/q2rsH5BRGw

You wouldn’t get a Best Picture nomination if the voters were in their right minds. pic.twitter.com/VdY3YktudO

It also highlights the lack of black filmmakers and performers in this year’s nominations, with no women nominated in the director category. In particular, the critically acclaimed The Woman King was completely left out, with many predicting that Viola Davis would at least be recognized for her performance.
#Woman_King It was generally everything the Oscars go for: It’s a period movie, with lots of battle scenes and bonded characters
But it was produced by a black woman, star of black women, directed by a black woman. So.#Oscar Nominations 2023

The Woman King being swept away from awards season is truly a spectacle to behold. The film, director and cast gave us some of the best work this year.

Then there were some categories they scratched their heads: One of the biggest hits of the year, Top Gun: Maverick, scored six nominations, including the coveted Best Picture nod. But star Tom Cruise didn’t get the same love from the Academy, nor did director Joseph Kosinski.
This is the situation. In fact, more than Oscar nods, it’s time to stop being smug and acknowledge what’s going on @Tom Cruise What he has done to cinema especially in recent years does not deserve accolades – his commitment to making blockbusters, and employing thousands while doing so, is heroic. https://t.co/bPl5I2Jj7a

How do you exclude James Cameron and Joseph Kosinski from the Best Director award?? Both have made sequels all the time that have pushed the boundaries of their art in radically different ways. Come, # scars This was throwing the ball.

This director category has become one of the most controversial after the nominations were announced. Despite receiving a best picture nod for Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron was not nominated in the director category.
In addition to the lack of women, others were frustrated to see the director of the Human Rights Resource Group, SS Rajamouli. The film was also ignored in Best Picture, despite its critical acclaim and fan base, although it was nominated in Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu.

I laugh at myself for the hernia that Avatar was nominated for Best Picture and the decision to leave, RRR, and don’t get dusty, the Oscars are a joke

And as the above tweet indicates, there were many who wanted to see more love for the South Korean film The Decision to Leave.
The dreadful decision to neglect the Decision to Leave. #Oscars Awards 2023

Park Chan-wook’s decision to drop snubs at the Academy Awards across the board, and especially in Best International Feature, is truly disappointing. Just gorgeous artwork on every conceivable front. pic.twitter.com/CURgTEPmdm
