Tory Lanez’ attorney says they’re ‘exploring all options including appeal’ after guilty verdict in shooting Megan Thee Stallion

The rapper’s lawyer says Tory Lanez’s legal team is “exploring all options” after he was found guilty of charges related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

On Friday, a Los Angeles jury found Tory Lanez — real name Daystar Peterson — guilty of all three counts brought against him in the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Lanes, 30, was convicted of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting Firearm with gross negligence, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

in a statment Obtained by Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon, attorney George Magdisian said Lenz’s legal team was “shocked” by the guilty verdict.

“We were shocked by the verdict. There was insufficient evidence to convict Mr. Peterson. We believe that this case has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” Majdisian said. “We will explore all options, including an appeal.”

Alex Spiro, attorney for Magdisian and Megan Thee Stallion, did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Lenz has previously denied shooting Meghan and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial began December 12, and the jury reached its verdict on Friday. Lenz faces up to 22 years in prison and possibly deportation to Canada. According to CNBC, the sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 27.

After the verdict, Lenz’s family members were outraged in and out of the Los Angeles courtroom. Clips of Lenz’s father, Sonstar Peterson, and others screaming outside the courtroom have been shared on social media. Law and crime reporter Megan Cuniff mentioned Peterson exclaimed, “This is an evil regime” after the verdict was read in the courtroom.

In July 2020, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a report of a shooting and arrested Lenz on a felony charge of carrying a weapon concealed in a vehicle. Megan initially remains silent after the incident, but later accuses Lenz of shooting her.

“The jury got it right,” Spiro Tyler told Insider’s Simon Mitchell.

“I’m grateful that there is justice for Meg,” Spiro told Insider.

District Attorney Georges Gascon also discussed the ruling in a statement.

“I want to start by highlighting Meghan Peet’s bravery,” he wrote. “You have shown incredible courage and vulnerability in your testimony despite repeated and outrageous undeserved attacks. You have faced unfair and vile scrutiny no woman should have to face, and you have been an inspiration to others throughout L.A. County and the nation.”
