Lenz has previously denied shooting Meghan and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial began December 12, and the jury reached its verdict on Friday. After the verdict, Lenz’s family members were outraged in and out of the Los Angeles courtroom. Clips of Lenz’s father, Sonstar Peterson, and others screaming outside the courtroom have been shared on social media. Law and crime reporter Megan Cuniff mentioned Peterson exclaimed, “This is an evil regime” after the verdict was read in the courtroom.
In July 2020, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a report of a shooting and arrested Lenz on a felony charge of carrying a weapon concealed in a vehicle. Megan initially remains silent after the incident, but later accuses Lenz of shooting her.
“The jury got it right,” Spiro Tyler told Insider’s Simon Mitchell.
“I’m grateful that there is justice for Meg,” Spiro told Insider.
District Attorney Georges Gascon also discussed the ruling in a statement.
“I want to start by highlighting Meghan Peet’s bravery,” he wrote. “You have shown incredible courage and vulnerability in your testimony despite repeated and outrageous undeserved attacks. You have faced unfair and vile scrutiny no woman should have to face, and you have been an inspiration to others throughout L.A. County and the nation.”
